Abstract

This study aims to determine the perceptions and interest of work as farmers, rular youth’s interest in working as farmers, the relationship between perceptions and interest and the factors that influence youth perceptions. The research wass carried out at Pledo Village, Witihama subdistrict, East Flores Regency. Analyisi of Perceptions and interest using spearman rank analysis while the factors that influence perceptions and interest with qualitative descriptive analysis.

The results showed that the youths perception of work as a farmer was not good, some of the youth were uncomfortable working as a farmer. For them, work as a farmer is a job that destroys physical appearance and that is work for parents. The same thing also happened to youth interest, the relationship between youth’s perception and interest in working as a farmer was obtained by a correlation coefficient of 0,64 with t-count of 6,61 which was greater than t-table 1,6698(6,61>1,6698). This shows that there is a significant relationship between perceptions and interest of youth in working as farmers. The factors that influence the perception af Village youth toward s work as farmers in the research location consist of two factors, namely internal factors and external factors. Internal factors consisting of gender, age and level of employment. External factor consist of agricultural technology, cosmopolitan and socialization from parents.
