Abstract

Zero energy building is one of the keys to the problems in environmental damage as the result of not eco-friendly energy usage. The wasted of energy are mostly came from glass envelopes because glasses material has a low U Value that caused sun heat transferred in the building and makes loads of cooling heat increase. Smart glass usage is an example effort for energy usage efficiency as a result of the concern as in energy wasted. This research is trying to explore the application of various types and patterns of smart glass in buildings, as well as to know the importance of it especially window in tropic climate for the part of integral of energy efficiency designs. Literature reviews are used as the method. The results contain the usage of smart glass combined with the shading, the solar cell and the U-PVC frames will reduce cooling heat loads in the building, adjust the lighting that entering the building without blocking the outside view of the building, and creating thermal comfort by avoiding dazzled from the outside.
