Abstract
The research on the local wisdom of the community in relation to the Protected forest
management in Wae Rebo village, Satar Lenda village, Manggarai Regency has been
completed. The purpose of this study is to be conscious about the forest management based
on the local wisdom applicable to the community of Wae Rebo, the species of plants used
by the community for the manufacture of the traditional houses and the traditional
ceremonies, tools and materials used, the leader and the speeches in customary rituals
relating to the forest, the water and the land management. The result of the research shows
that the forest management based on the local wisdom applicable to Wae Rebo community
is divided into several areas based on the function and utilization by the community namely
Beo (village), is a place to carry out the traditional ceremonies related to forest management
activities, Lingko (communal garden), is an area that is divided on the community to be
managed so as not to disturb the protected forest area, Cengit (sacred area). The utilization
of Forest Products is the use of Worok wood as the main pillar of traditional house. The
relation between the nature and Wae Rebo people's life is the people be more sensitive to
the natural signs and they make some special rituals, such as in the planting season, harvest
season and marriage ceremony. There are seven species of plants used by the community of
Wae Rebo for the manufacture of their traditional houses namely Dysoxylum densiflorum
Blume, Litsea glutinosa Lour, Imperata cylindrica L. Beauv, Arenga pinnata (Wurmb)
Merr, Bambusa vulgaris Schrad, Toona sureni Merr, Calamus caesius Blume. The
traditional ceremony, tools and materials used, the leader and the speeches in customary
rituals relating to the Protected forest, the water and the land management are Penti, the
tools and the materials used in this are machete and kaba (buffalo). Kasawiang, used
machete, a lalong rasi (a rooster with a special color), boiled chicken eggs, raw chicken
eggs and the betel leaf. Roko Molas Poco, used machete and a lalong cepang (a rooster with
a special color), and a lalong bakok (a white rooster). Finally, the traditional ceremony is
led by the elder and use the traditional speeches.
