Abstract

The developer frequently offers the same housing design while different from customer needs. Therefore, customers request to alter the house layout. The alteration happens since they feel the initial design cannot meet their needs. Alteration of housing design is a topic that researchers have been discussing for a long time. However, case studies often occur where the users already live in the houses. This article discusses how the alteration happens before the construction begins. We use the qualitative method by observing the house design and interviewing the developer representative. This article finds that the expansion of the area is essential to the consumers. However, it affects natural lighting and ventilation, so artificial ones are needed. Even though the developer is the one who has the responsibility, assistance is needed for both developers and customers when designing the housing they need.
