Abstract

Ume kbubu and lopo are traditional houses of the Atoin Meto community in western Timor Island and have become an integral cultural identity. Moreover, they have become an inseparable cultural identity too. These two traditional houses always stand side by side and are owned by nobility and ordinary individuals. Ume kbubu and lopo, used as the centre of tribal or royal government, are usually called Sonaf. One of the sonaf on Timor Island is Sonaf Afeanpah, located in Maubesi Village. This study aims to determine the spatial pattern of Afeanpah's Sonaf and lopo as local wisdom. Conducting interviews and observing are the first steps of the descriptive-analytical method. The study results show that the spatial patterns of sonaf and lopo are formed from the community's daily activities and traditional rituals. The space in ume kbubu sonaf consists of cooking, traditional rituals, resting, and transition space, while in lopo there is space for deliberation and discussion. In the lopo there is space for deliberation and storage space for foodstuffs and heirlooms.
