Abstract
The village of Nunkolo is in the South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. It is a traditional village with unique characteristics, particularly in the design of its residential houses. Currently, there is significant potential for developing Nunkolo Village as a tourist destination in the South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The village government and the South Central Timor Regency government have tried to preserve the authenticity of the architecture of the village houses. However, research on the vernacular architecture of the houses in Nunkolo Village still needs to be completed. Therefore, there is a need to identify the principles of vernacular architecture embedded in the residential houses to serve as a guide for the preservation and development of Nunkolo Village in the future. This research employs a qualitative research method with a rationalistic approach and applies qualitative data analysis techniques. The residential houses in Nunkolo Village fully adhere to the distinctive principles of vernacular architecture, which are considered cultural heritage that must be preserved to ensure the sustainability of the village.
