Abstract

Mental health has become an increasingly pressing global problem, especially among adolescents, where anxiety and depression disorders are the most common cases and occur especially in urban areas. In Kupang City, the availability of mental health facilities is still categorized as limited. The Naimata Mental Hospital (RSJ), as one of the existing facilities, is currently still unable to meet optimal service standards, which can affect the number of mental disorders and suicide cases. In designing the Mental Health Center in Kupang City, a healing architecture approach was used which began with an analysis of functional comparative studies and the application of the seven principles of healing architecture. This approach offers results through the application of these seven principles, which include: Unity of Form and Function with dynamic building design to create a sense of security; Polarity through the use of glass elements that unite the interior and exterior spaces; The Living Wall with transparent walls in the inpatient and counselling areas; Harmony with Nature and Site through the integration of therapeutic gardens; Metamorphosis by connecting the inpatient area and the outer space; Color Luminosity through the selection of colors and materials that support psychological comfort; and The Dynamic Equilibrium of Spatial Experience through the design of a balanced and safe space.
