Abstract

The traditional settlement of Matabesi in the district of Belu is a settlement with people who are still preserve their culture since several generations to the moment. A form of culture of society of Matabesi is culture ritual contained in traditional ceremonies such as wedding, birth, death, and agriculture. The main purpose of this study is to find ritual influence to arrangement of the traditional settlement of Matabesi. The study undertaken by use of the qualitative study rationalistic with the study based on rationalism descriptive. A form of a spatial studied is the ritual consisting of two types of the space, that is the indoor space with a form of a building and the outdoor space with a form of the open court. To the establishment of the spatial constituted an attempt the community in accommodating cultural activities is the sacred and profane ritual. All spatial consideration about traditional settlement resulting is community efforts the tribe of Matabesi in balance the life of the people against nature and the lord of the universe through ritual traditions.
