Abstract

One of the influences from globalization in the culture sector is the appearance of a phenomenon that known as "hallyu" or the Korean wave. The products of hallyu consist of music, film, drama, and others always present Korean cultural content as one of the strategies of the Korean government in promoting its cultures. The phenomenon spread through national television and the internet has attracted the fascinated of the people in Indonesia, including East Nusa Tenggara, ranging from children, teenager, and adult. This fascinate raises the desire to be able to visit the land of ginseng and feel the atmosphere there. However, the distance and the limited resources are obstacles to make it real. South Korea as the country of Hallyu has cooperated with Indonesia since 1966. The cooperation also intertwined with East Nusa Tenggara in various sectors, including the sectors of education, religion, business, and others. The creation of a place to introduce Korean culture is deemed necessary not only as a response to the Korean wave (hallyu) but also as a response to the cooperation relations that have been established between South Korea and East Nusa Tenggara. The main purpose of the Korean Cultural Center is to introduce Korean culture through education, information and entertainment. Therefore, the main facilities created so those that can accommodate the activities of it. Meanwhile to present the Korean atmosphere, the applies of Korean thematic theme is a design that visually the presents of Korean characteristics, both on the exterior and interior of the building and includes traditional and modern elements from South Korea. The characteristics of the Korean thematic building concepts processed by a transformation process.
