Abstract

The design of a Child and Adolescent Rehabilitation Center in Merauke City is motivated by the increasing cases of substance abuse among children and adolescents, particularly glue sniffing, and the lack of rehabilitation facilities that specifically address the needs of this age group. This study aims to create a therapeutic and holistic rehabilitation environment by integrating medical, psychological, social, and natural environmental aspects through a biophilic architectural approach. The design method involves site analysis, user and space requirements, and the application of biophilic design principles as the main approach. Biophilic strategies are implemented through the optimization of natural lighting and cross-ventilation, the integration of indoor gardens and green open spaces, the use of local materials, and the creation of safe and calming spatial configurations for children and adolescents, such as open communal spaces and capsule bed systems. The design also responds to the local climate and cultural context of Merauke. The results indicate that the integration of natural elements into spatial planning and building form contributes to the creation of a therapeutic environment that supports physical and mental recovery, while enhancing comfort and quality of life for its users.
