Perancangan Gereja Kristen Sumba (GKS) Wai-Wei dengan Pendekatan Arsitektur Humanistik
Main Article Content
Abstract
The design of the Sumba Christian Church (GKS) Wai Wei is motivated by the congregation’s need for an adequate and safe worship facility capable of accommodating the growth of church members. The existing church building no longer meets the required standards in terms of capacity, comfort, and spatial quality, thus necessitating a new design that can respond to the spiritual and social needs of the congregation. A humanistic architecture approach is adopted as the design foundation by placing humans at the center of the design process and considering the physical, psychological, and emotional aspects of users. The design process is conducted through literature studies, field surveys, documentation, environmental analysis, and interviews with church leaders and congregation members. The humanistic architectural approach is implemented through principles of human scale, multi-sensory comfort, integration with nature, symbolism in worship spaces, accessibility and inclusivity, as well as respect for the local social and cultural context. The design results include the zoning of public, semi-public, and semi-private areas to support worship, administrative, and social activities, as well as site planning that optimizes natural contours, utilizes vegetation as thermal and noise buffers, and organizes safe and well-directed circulation for both vehicles and pedestrians. This design is expected to create a modern, and functional church that provides a sacred and meaningful spatial experience for the GKS Wai Wei congregation.
