Abstract

Labuan Bajo is one of Indonesia’s super-priority tourism destinations, globally recognized for its natural wealth, marine beauty, and the cultural diversity of the people of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). However, the development of accommodation facilities in this area tends to focus on commercial aspects and modern aesthetics without strongly reflecting local cultural identity. As a result, tourists’ experiences of the cultural values of the Flobamora ethnic groups comprising various communities such as Flores, Sumba, Alor, and Timor remain limited and have not yet become an integral part of lodging facilities. This condition indicates the need for an accommodation design that functions not only as a temporary place to stay but also as a medium for cultural preservation and a means of educating visitors. In response to this need, a Flobamora Ethnic Thematic Resort Hotel in Labuan Bajo is proposed, integrating recreational, educational, and cultural functions through a Cultural Thematic Architecture approach. This concept is realized by adapting elements of traditional architecture from the Flobamora ethnic groups into the interior design, as well as through landscape planning that harmonizes with the natural character of Labuan Bajo. Thus, the resort hotel is expected to serve as a medium for preserving Flobamora culture, encouraging local community empowerment, and enhancing the tourism appeal of Labuan Bajo through an authentic and meaningful cultural-based travel experience.
