Konstruksi Rumah Melayu: Identifikasi Sistem Konstruksi Rumah Godang Koto Sentajo, Riau

Abstract

Traditional wooden houses in Indonesia has unique due to their construction process. One of the houses is known as Rumah Godang at Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau. The Rumah Godang has built on the pile and open plan floor with a two-level gable roof type. As almost whole made of wooden material, the construction of the house become a significant, in particular how the material and the connection system to be able for last a long time. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method to investigate the detail of the wooden construction, including the connection used on the structure. Not only upper construction, but this research also has focused on the foundation of the house. This research confirms the wooden construction of the house has formed in just one long wood without any additional joint and has adjusted according to the height of the house. Meanwhile, the foundation is not rigid in anticipating the possibility of an earthquake.
