Abstract

In the midst of an external environment that is no longer thermally comfortable, the use of air conditioning in the room has become a major need. The main problem with the use of air conditioners is wasteful of energy; which if you don't pay attention to it in the first place, will greatly affect the cooling load. Included in the lecture process, in order to run smoothly, a thermally comfortable space is needed. This research was conducted in the lecture building of the Architecture Department at Nusa Cendana University using mathematical methods, thermal balance. The research object was the study room measuring 14 x 7 m2 is on the 2nd floor. In this room, there are already 8 split-type air conditioners (cooling load @ 5.57 kw). The temperature of the outer room is 33 0C. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the use of air conditioning on the research object  in order to achieve building energy efficiency without compromising the comfort of its users. The results of this research showed that the total cooling load required to reduce the temperature to 22 0C was 13,729,831 W or 13,73 kw. If we used an exixting AC (5.57 kw cooling capacity and 1.59 kw electric power) then the number of ACs needed was 2 pieces. With a basic rate electricity of Rp. 1444.70, then the cost incurred by the 2 air conditioners in an hour was Rp. 4,594. Compare this with the existing condition which costs Rp. 18,376. The potential savings obtained was Rp. 13,782 in an hour.
