Empowerment of The Fatukoa I Livestock Farmers Group in Fatukoa Village Through The Utilization of Fermented Banana Stems As Animal Feed
Abstrak
The biggest challenge in livestock farming for the Fatukoa 1 livestock group in Fatukoa Village is the issue of livestock health management and feed. Many livestock farmers still do not understand how to manage livestock health, prevent diseases, and find alternative feeds to address the high cost of commercial feeds. Local alternative feeds are needed to solve the farmers' problems. They can use banana stem wastes in Fatukoa Village for high-quality alternative feed through fermentation. This community service aims to enhance the community's knowledge about pig health management and provide education and training on making fermented banana stem waste feed. This activity was carried out synergistically between two universities and the Partner Group through socialization, theoretical delivery, and practice. The results of the activity implementation showed a positive response from the partner group, with the attendance of around 25 group leaders and members. Based on discussions on the activity materials, banana stem waste was previously used as livestock feed material. Still, the farmers did not see the quality of the fermentation processing method. The practical results of processing banana stem waste showed a very satisfactory success rate, as it was well-processed and had a distinctive aroma and taste favored by the livestock. The farmers' knowledge of health management practices also increased, as seen from the results of questionnaires filled out before and after the counseling.
