Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the use of multilevel gutters on the production volume and efficiency of the desalination system. The method used is an experimental method with two types of basins, namely a basin without a gutter (Basin A) and a basin with multilevel channels (Basin B). The test results show that the highest solar radiation intensity reaches 1409.77 W/m², which causes an increase in seawater temperature and evaporation rate. Freshwater production increases over the test time, with an average total distillate volume of Basin A of 1284 ml and Basin B of 971 ml. In Basin B, the condensate distribution shows that gutter II produces the largest distillate volume. The maximum efficiency obtained by each basin is 2.55% for Basin A and 2.05% for Basin B. In general, the use of multilevel gutters does not improve condensate distribution and does not increase the effectiveness of the condensation process.
