Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Japanese papaya leaf decoction administered through drinking water on carcass weight, carcass percentage, non-carcass percentage, and abdominal fat of broiler chickens. A total of 100 day-old chicks (DOC) of CP 707 broiler strain were used in a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of five treatments and four replications, with each replication containing five chickens. The treatments included P0 (control without decoction), P1 = 25 ml/975 ml, P2 = 50 ml/950 ml, P3 = 75 ml/925 ml, and P4 = 100 ml/900 ml of drinking water. Observed parameters were carcass weight, carcass percentage, non-carcass percentage, and abdominal fat percentage. The results of the analysis showed that the administration of Japanese papaya leaf decoction had a highly significant effect (P<0.01) on abdominal fat percentage but had no significant effect (P>0.05) on carcass weight, carcass percentage, or non-carcass percentage. Treatment P1 resulted in the lowest abdominal fat percentage, indicating its potential to reduce body fat in broilers, although it was not yet effective in increasing carcass weight or carcass percentage.
