Ruang Publik sebagai Wahana Diskursus Lingkungan: Relevansi Pemikiran Jurgen Habermas di Era Krisis Ekologis
Abstract
The current environmental crisis has become a serious concern for all humankind. Environmental pollution, the decline in biodiversity, and extreme climate change are realities experienced by humanity as a consequence of human actions that disregard the existence of non-human entities. The environmental crisis has evolved into a complex problem because it touches upon the deepest aspects of human reality and affects all dimensions of human sustainability. Humans and non-human entities are bound by a relationship of mutual interdependence. As moral agents, humans bear a moral responsibility to maintain this interdependent relationship in a harmonious manner. This paper aims to examine an ideal and effective forum for discourse to discuss and seek relevant solutions to today’s environmental crisis within a complex and democratic society. The method employed in this study is qualitative, conducted through literature review and analysis. The author seeks to explore various written sources related to the topic discussed in this paper and to analyze relevant literature that aligns with its theme. The contribution of this paper lies in proposing an ideal platform for public participation in fostering an adequate understanding and promoting sustainable action. Solutions to the current environmental crisis must be regarded as a collective responsibility. Therefore, an ideal communicative space is needed—one that enables ecological values to be debated, agreed upon, and internalized collectively. Habermas’s concept of the public sphere provides a normative framework for rational, domination-free, and inclusive discourse.
