Abstract

This study aims to study, analyze, and explore the meaning of icons, indexes, and symbols contained in Sangguana folklore. This study is a qualitative study involving recording in the form of words and sentences that the focus of the study supports. This study uses Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic approach. Data collection techniques used are interview techniques, note-taking, and observation techniques. Data analysis techniques are carried out by identifying data, selecting sentences in Sangguana folklore, classifying data, separating data/sentences of icons, indexes, and symbols, analyzing data, analyzing sentences contained in icons, indexes, and symbols, discussing data according to the theory used, discussing the overall results of the analysis based on the data obtained. Data description in the form of documentation with data in the form of sentences in Sangguana folklore and then used for data analysis activities in the form of icons, indexes, and symbols contained in Sangguana folklore. The results of the study showed that 1) the object signs found were icons containing 6 data, indexes containing 7 data, and symbols containing 8 data. The most common signs found in Sangguana folklore are objects that taper to the symbol sign, there are 8 data in Sangguana folklore..
