Abstract

This article discusses the function of adat institutions in the Tetun culture mix in Malaka Regency. The function referred to is
discussed in the context of tradition and its dynamics as a consequence of changes in society supporting Tetun culture. The
questions that underlie this research, namely: "What are the functions of the Customary Institutions in the Tetun culture mix in
Malaka Regency?" Referring to the concept of the functions and concepts of traditional institutions, and based on interviews
obtained the results of the function of traditional institutions in the Tetun culture in Malaka, as follows : (1) the function of
strengthening ritual actions, (2) the function and reconciliation, and (3) the eocological function. In the context of cultural
dynamics, these functions experience shrinking as a result of shifts in social structure and hierarchy, dichotomous conflicts of
interest between modern traditions, and the shared role of adat, religion and government.
