Abstract

Tropical architecture is the product of human culture in the form of architecture that applies tropical principles as a form of adaptation to its environment. The Osing Traditional House is one of the traditional architectures that apply the principles of tropical architecture. In understanding further, the application of tropical architecture to the Osing traditional house, this article presents the identification of the tropical principles that can be found in the Osing Traditional House, through visual analysis. The method used is descriptive-qualitative in describing the results of tropical studies at the Osing Traditional House. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the architectural adaptations of the Osing House to the tropical climate include: the use of bright colors on the building envelope, the presence of a wide roof terrace and trellis on ampok, the shape and slope of the sloping roof, high floor elevation, the presence of trees in the natural landscape. , the direction of the building facing north-south, shade vegetation on the west-east side, the use of natural materials with low conductivity, small ventilation, and the presence of porous walls in the form of woven bamboo.
