Peer Review Process
Every manuscript submitted to GEWANG undergoes peer review by the editor and reviewers before publication. This process aims to maintain the scholarly quality and integrity of articles.
Type of Review
Review is conducted as double-blind / single-blind: the identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential from each other / only the reviewers’ identities are kept confidential.
Stages
- Authors submit their manuscript through the OJS system, following the template and author guidelines.
- Initial check by the editor. The editor assesses the manuscript’s fit with the journal’s focus and scope, completeness, and format. The manuscript is also checked for similarity (see the Similarity Check page).
- Reviewer assignment. Manuscripts that pass are sent to at least [FILL IN: number, e.g., 2] reviewers with relevant expertise.
- Reviewers assess novelty, methodological soundness, quality of analysis, clarity of presentation, and completeness of references, then provide a recommendation.
- Editorial decision. Based on the reviews, the decision is one of: accept, accept with minor revisions, major revisions, or reject.
- Authors revise the manuscript and include a response to each comment. Revised manuscripts may be sent for re-review.
- Copyediting and layout. Accepted manuscripts are copyedited and typeset before publication.
- Articles are published in the April or October issue.
Assessment Criteria
- Fit with the journal’s focus and scope.
- Originality and contribution to the fields of architecture, human settlements, and urban design.
- Methodological soundness and validity of the analysis.
- Clarity of language, structure, and presentation.
- Quality and currency of references.
Confidentiality and Ethics
Manuscripts are treated as confidential documents. Reviewers with a conflict of interest must withdraw from the review. For details, see the Publication Ethics page.
Review Time
Review is generally completed within 4 to 8 weeks from the time a manuscript is deemed complete. Timelines may vary depending on reviewer availability and how quickly authors submit revisions.
