Similarity Check
GEWANG safeguards the originality of articles by conducting a similarity check on every submitted manuscript.
Tools Used
The check uses Turnitin and PlagiarismX software. The editorial office uses one or both, depending on availability.
Timing and Similarity Threshold
- The check is carried out at the initial check stage, before the manuscript is sent to reviewers.
- Manuscripts with a similarity level above 25% are returned to the author for revision or rejected.
- Sections excluded from the assessment, such as the reference list and reasonable direct quotations, are determined by the editor / according to the tool’s settings.
Follow-up
- High similarity resulting from legitimate quotation is not automatically grounds for rejection; the editor evaluates the context.
- Allegations of plagiarism are handled in accordance with the Publication Ethics page, including rejection of the manuscript or retraction of an already published article.
- Authors may be asked to attach the similarity check report when submitting a manuscript, if requested by the editorial office.
