Publication Ethics
GEWANG: Gerbang Wacana dan Rancang Arsitektur, published by the Architecture Study Program, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Universitas Nusa Cendana, is committed to safeguarding the integrity of scholarly work. This policy follows the Core Practices and Code of Conduct of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and applies to authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher.
1. Duties of Editors
- Evaluate manuscripts solely on their scholarly merit and relevance to the journal’s focus and scope, without regard to the author’s ethnicity, religion, gender, nationality, or affiliation.
- Keep manuscripts and reviewer identities confidential, and not disclose manuscript information to anyone other than those involved.
- Avoid conflicts of interest; editors do not handle manuscripts from authors with whom they have a personal or professional relationship that could influence the decision.
- Ensure that every published article has undergone peer review and a similarity check.
- Follow up on allegations of ethical misconduct in accordance with COPE guidelines.
2. Duties of Reviewers
- Review manuscripts objectively, on time, and with well-founded reasons.
- Keep manuscripts confidential and not use them for personal gain.
- Decline to review a manuscript if there is a conflict of interest or if they do not feel competent in the subject area.
- Notify the editor if they find substantial similarity with other published work.
3. Duties of Authors
- Manuscripts must be original, not previously published, and not under consideration by another journal.
- Data and results must be reported honestly, with no fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data or images.
- The work and ideas of others must be properly cited and listed in the references.
- All those who made a significant contribution must be listed as authors, and all authors must approve the submitted manuscript.
- Sources of funding and potential conflicts of interest must be disclosed openly.
- If authors discover a significant error in a published article, they must promptly notify the editorial office.
4. Plagiarism and Unethical Conduct
Plagiarism, duplicate publication, unreasonable fragmentation of research results (salami slicing), and submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal are not acceptable. Every manuscript is checked for similarity before review (see the Similarity Check page). Manuscripts found to violate these rules will be rejected or, if already published, retracted in accordance with the correction and retraction procedures.
5. Authorship and Changes to the Author List
Changes to the order of authors, or the addition or removal of authors after submission, must be accompanied by a written explanation and the approval of all authors. The final decision rests with the editor.
6. Conflicts of Interest
Authors, editors, and reviewers must declare any financial, personal, or professional relationships that could be seen as influencing the research or their judgment.
7. Complaints and Appeals
Allegations of ethical misconduct or objections to editorial decisions may be submitted in writing to the editorial email gewang@undana.ac.id, together with supporting evidence. The editorial office will respond to and examine complaints fairly and will keep the complainant’s identity confidential.
8. Corrections and Retractions
Errors in published articles will be corrected through a correction notice (erratum or corrigendum). Articles found to contain serious violations may be retracted, with a clear retraction notice that is accessible to readers.
