Perancangan Animal Shelter dan Pet Crematorium di Kota Kupang dengan Pendekatan Arsitektur Industrial
Main Article Content
Abstract
The practice of dog meat consumption still occurs in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara. The lack of animal protection facilities, as well as limited public awareness and education regarding animal welfare, presents challenges for animal lover communities in realizing proper protection. Therefore, the design of an Animal Shelter and Pet Crematorium with an Industrial Architecture Approach is needed as a solution to this problem. The principles of Industrial Architecture are applied in the analysis by emphasizing the use of exposed materials, efficient spatial organization, and openness of utility systems as design strategies. This project aims to provide a facility capable of sheltering, treating, and handling deceased pets with dignity, while also functioning as an educational medium. The design methods include literature review, comparative study, and field survey based on the Industrial Architecture approach. The design outcomes include a vehicular circulation path surrounding the main building, parking areas, a dog walking track, and an outdoor play area for dogs. The main building is centrally placed as the focal point of the site, with a simple two-story geometric form. The Industrial Architecture approach is implemented through materials such as exposed concrete, red brick, and a wide-span space truss roof structure. The utility systems are designed to be exposed as part of the building’s aesthetics and to facilitate maintenance. Natural and mechanical ventilation are considered to create a cool and comfortable thermal condition for both animals and visitors.
