Abstract

The increasing volume of plastic waste in Ende City has become an urgent environmental issue, characterized by the high amount of plastic waste that has not been optimally managed and the low level of public awareness regarding waste segregation at the source. Therefore, a waste processing facility is required that not only functions technically but also encourages behavioral change and community participation. This design aims to develop a Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R) Waste Processing Facility (TPS 3R) focusing on plastic waste management in Ende City through the application of a Sustainable Architecture approach. The design process includes data collection through field observations, literature studies, comparative studies, and documentation; concept development through site analysis as well as physical and non-physical analyses; and design synthesis resulting in spatial programs, zoning, and an efficient 3R processing flow concept. The Sustainable Architecture approach is applied as the design foundation by emphasizing principles of resource conservation, energy efficiency, environmental protection, user health, building flexibility, and waste reduction. The design outcome produces a TPS 3R with clear zoning between processing areas, operational support areas, educational areas, and public areas. The plastic waste processing workflow is designed to be linear and efficient, starting from sorting, washing, shredding, to further processing. Overall, this design results in a sustainable plastic waste management facility that is contextual to the site conditions and local climate of Ende City.
