Abstract
This article contains a study on the phonology of Isolek Perai based on (a) the realization of the origin of the IP root
morpheme at the phonological and phonetic levels; and (b) the morpheme requirements of the origin of the IP origin; by utiliz ing
generative phonological theory. Based on the results of the study, it is known that there are 31 types of phonetic realization in IP
out of 20 phoneme segment realization. The phonemes consist of 5 vowels, namely / i /, / u /, / e /, / o /, and / a /; and 15
consonants, namely / p /, / m /, / w /, / f /, / t /, / n /, / l /, / s /, / r /, / j /, / c /, / g /, / k /, / ng /, and /h/. All IP vowel segments can be
completely distributed by showing a mechanism for vowel relaxation, such as / i /> [I] if followed by a nasal consonant; / u /> [ʊ]
if followed by a nasal consonant; / e /> [ɛ] if it is in an open position and does not follow K dorsovelar; and / o /> [ͻ] if it is in an
open position. IP consonant distribution can be grouped into four types, namely (1) consonants with complete distribution: / s /, / l
/, / r / and / k / and / n /; (2) consonants that distribute initial and medial positions: / p /, / m /, / w /, / f /, / t /, / j /, / g / and / h /; (3)
consonants that are distributed in the medial position: / c /; and (4) consonants distributed in the final position: /ng/. The tribal
pattern as the canonical form VK with the minimum sequence is V and the maximum is VV ([+ sil.] [+ sil.]).
