Correction and Retraction

Jurnal Communio recognises the importance of maintaining an accurate, reliable, and transparent scholarly record. Although every manuscript undergoes editorial assessment and peer review before publication, errors or concerns affecting published research may occasionally come to light.

The journal provides mechanisms for addressing such matters through corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions, as appropriate to the nature and significance of the issue identified.

This policy complements the journal's Publication Ethics by establishing procedures for amending the published record in accordance with the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Corrections to Published Articles

Jurnal Communio may issue a correction when an error or omission is identified in a published article but does not fundamentally undermine the reliability of its findings or principal conclusions.

Corrections may concern inaccurate information, errors in the presentation of research data, incorrect references, author or affiliation details, or omissions in relevant acknowledgements and declarations.

In communication research, corrections may also be necessary where inaccuracies affect the presentation of interview excerpts, the identification of media sources, statistical reporting, or the interpretation of documentary and digital communication data.

The editorial team will assess whether the issue warrants a formal correction and determine the appropriate means of communicating the amendment.

Where a correction is required, the journal will publish a clearly identified notice explaining the nature of the error and the changes made. The notice will be linked to the original article to ensure that readers can readily identify the amendment.

Corrections attributable to authors may be designated as corrigenda, while errors introduced during editorial or production processes may be identified as errata.

Minor typographical errors that do not affect the interpretation, attribution, or scholarly meaning of the work will ordinarily not require a separate correction notice.

2. Retraction of Published Articles

Retraction may be considered when a published article contains serious flaws that render its findings, conclusions, or scholarly contribution unreliable.

Such circumstances may arise from substantial errors in research design or analysis, fabricated or falsified data, serious ethical violations, compromised peer review, plagiarism, or other circumstances that materially undermine the integrity of the published work.

The decision to retract an article will be based on the reliability of the available evidence and the implications of the identified concerns for the scholarly record.

A retraction is not intended as a punitive measure against authors. Its principal purpose is to inform readers that the findings or content of a published article should no longer be relied upon.

Before reaching a decision, the editorial team will ordinarily provide the authors with an opportunity to respond to the concerns raised, subject to the nature and circumstances of the case.

The final editorial decision will be made in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics and relevant COPE guidance.

Where an article is retracted, Jurnal Communio will publish a retraction notice identifying the article concerned and explaining the grounds for the decision.

Retracted articles will normally remain accessible in the journal's archives, clearly marked as retracted, to preserve the transparency and continuity of the scholarly record.

Removal of published content will be considered only in exceptional circumstances involving compelling legal, ethical, privacy, or safety considerations.

3. Expressions of Concern

An expression of concern may be issued when substantial questions arise regarding the integrity or reliability of a published article, but the available evidence does not yet justify a correction or retraction.

This measure may be appropriate where an investigation is ongoing, relevant evidence remains inconclusive, or additional clarification is required from the authors or an appropriate institution.

An expression of concern serves to alert readers to an unresolved issue without presuming that research misconduct has occurred.

Where issued, the notice will identify the article concerned and describe the nature of the unresolved concern to the extent that disclosure is appropriate.

The editorial team will review the status of the matter as further information becomes available and determine whether the expression of concern should be followed by a correction, retraction, or other appropriate editorial notice.

4. Requests for Correction or Retraction

Authors, readers, reviewers, and other interested parties may notify the editorial office of significant errors or concerns affecting articles published in Jurnal Communio.

Requests should identify the article concerned, preferably by title and DOI, and provide a clear description of the issue together with relevant supporting information.

Correspondence may be directed to the journal's official editorial e-mail: jikom@undana.ac.id

The editorial team will examine the information submitted and may seek clarification from the authors, relevant academic specialists, or other appropriate parties.

Where an issue involves suspected research or publication misconduct, its examination will follow the journal's Allegations of Research Misconduct policy.

Requests for amendment will be assessed on their scholarly and ethical merits. The submission of a request does not, in itself, establish that a correction or retraction is warranted.

5. Transparency and Preservation of the Scholarly Record

Jurnal Communio is committed to ensuring that substantial changes to published articles are communicated transparently and remain traceable.

Formal correction, retraction, and expression of concern notices will be clearly identified and connected to the original publication through appropriate references and available electronic links.

Where applicable, the journal will update relevant article metadata to reflect the publication of a corrective notice and ensure that readers are informed of the article's current publication status.

A retracted article will not ordinarily be deleted or silently replaced. Its publication history will remain accessible, accompanied by a clear indication of the retraction.

The journal will take reasonable steps to maintain the accuracy and consistency of related records across its online publishing platform and relevant indexing services.

These measures are intended to preserve the integrity of the academic record while allowing readers to distinguish between the original publication and subsequent editorial amendments.
