Jurnal Communio was first published by Universitas Nusa Cendana (UNDANA) in 2012 as a print journal. In 2018, the journal began publishing an online edition as part of its transition towards digital scholarly publishing.

From Volume 8, Issue 1 (2019) to Volume 11, Issue 2 (2022), Jurnal Communio was accredited at SINTA Rank 4 by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, based on Decree No. 158/E/KPT/2021, dated 9 December 2021.

From Volume 12, Issue 1 (2023) to Volume 16, Issue 2 (2027), Jurnal Communio has been accredited at SINTA Rank 3 by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, based on Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology No. 152/E/KPT/2023, dated 25 September 2023.

On 9 April 2026, Jurnal Communio was accepted for inclusion in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), marking an important milestone in the journal's international visibility and commitment to open-access scholarly publishing.
